Supple Spine Academy

A Little Background and Context on This Program...

In the last decade of my clinical work, I've observed way too many clients with preventable back and neck pain. I've been there also, having "thrown out" my back lifting at a younger age, still unaware of how to organize my body to function without causing harm.

80% of the US population will experience low back pain episodes during their lifetime. Most of these painful conditions are preventable with the proper knowledge and awareness of organizing and moving your body.

As the old Chinese proverb states, "You're only as young as your spine is flexible."

But this is a partial truth; you need more than just spinal flexibility. You need to:

  • Develop a clear sense of skeletal support
  • Understand how to distribute force through the whole of yourself
  • Engage soft tissue for action (Soft tissue is ineffective for support = Tension)
  • Organize, so forces travel up and through the spine (not across it)

I started to envision a place where we could create a community of support, learn to move with greater integrity, and even change a stuck belief about our movement potential.

The Supple Spine Academy will teach you to become your own expert in identifying your unique patterns of movement and how you can refine them to move more freely, with less tension and pain, for decades to come.

This program and community will serve all of us as we progress towards a resilient and robust spine and extraordinary functional integrity in our bodies.

"Movement dysfunction or pain is often caused by learned habits, not by abnormal structures. Improvements come from changing habits of movement and creating new possibilities." Norman Doidge

Key Benefits From This Course

This course is about developing your understanding of how your body works and how to best utilize it. Some of the key concepts that we will explore in great detail include:

  1. Embodied understanding of movement, anatomy, and joints
  2. Redefine what is good posture and knowing how to effective support yourself without undue tension
  3. Improved awareness, ability to sense distinctions and muscular recruitment to produce movements that are more integrated, lighter, smoother, and easier
  4. Forces travel up and through the spine (not across it).
  5. Evenly distributed and appropriate muscle tone for the specific activity, so that no one place works harder than any other

Hey There! I'm Joe Kelly

There is nothing more gratifying to me than helping my clients get “unstuck” from old habits and patterns of movement that no longer serve them.  I’m an Advanced Certified Structural Medicine Specialist, but most importantly, I’m an educator, coach, and cheerleader to help you get to your goals. I have a keen ability to observe the subtle habitual movement patterns that are inefficient and, if left unchecked, often create tension and pain. By developing awareness of one’s movement habits, we can develop strategies to foster more efficient and elegant movement.

With a decade of clinical experience and study helping people find optimal alignment, I look forward to sharing with you the principles to a healthier and happier body!
